It dawned on me last week that although lifestyle and technology have changed massively over the years, such that the old-fashioned ideas seem completely alien, the old photograph does not.
Here are some things I have struggled to explain to my 6 year old daughter:
- writing a letter and waiting days for a response
- an analogue phone with the numbers on a circular dial which you drag dependent on the number to dial
- a typewriter (she liked this as I explained it was like a computer but it prints instantly... "Wow" she replied)
However, when she looks at photos of my wife or me when we were children, or perhaps our parents, or further generations back in black and white, she is completely at ease and doesn't find it as alien.
For me this proves ones thing... whilst it's easier for everyone to photograph everything now... don't lose those memories. They will mean something special for you to explain to a future generation.
